History
In Shape opened in 1987 in North Haven. With 11,200 sq. ft.,
we were the largest co-ed fitness facility of its kind in the New
Haven market. It was our goal to be the most service oriented
fitness facility around. By 1989 we had the largest group fitness
program and catered to women who made up 50% of the market.
As computerized CV machines became popular in 1990, we saw the
need to increase the number of machines and expanded the Club by
4,000 sq. ft. In 1993 we had the opportunity to grow the market
and purchased the Branford Health and Racquet Club, immediately
adding 7,000 sq ft to the facility. We also expanded the North
Haven facility by another 6,000 sq ft to accommodate basketball.
As the demand for products and services grew, so did we.
In July of 1999 we relocated the Branford facility to 89 North
Main Street and hired Rudy Fabiano to create the most cutting edge
fitness center in its class. It was extremely well received in
the market. In 2003 Rudy was engaged to complete the renovation
of the North Haven facility.
We are constantly upgrading the facilities with the most recent
trends, entertainment systems, services of the highest caliber, and
always the first to offer the latest in the market.
